Project: South Orange Groundwater Treatment Facility
Client: Township of South Orange Village
![]() |
Faced with the costs of additional water treatment, extensive water system
capital improvements, increasing water demands and operating expenses,
the Township elected to discontinue the operation of its water system
and instead opted to enter into a water supply, operations and management
services agreement with a neighboring water purveyor. Upon assuming control
of the subject water system, the water purveyor installed a new finished
water interconnection allowing large volumes of purveyor supplied water
to be fed directly into the Township’s water distribution system.
This allowed the Township to reduce its own water producing capabilities.
John Scillia, principal in charge of GSE was placed in responsible charge
of the program which included the design and construction observation
of an extensive well supply reduction/abandonment program and treatment
facility retrofit. Due to the decreases in water production required,
the existing Township water treatment facility which included treatment
for softening and VOC removal was significantly oversized and was resized
to accommodate the reductions in water production required.
